Sorry, i haven't posted this week as promised. we've been super busy every day with clinic, and have been very sleepy after getting home every day. Today was more relaxed, which means we saw less than 150 patients. We've averaged anywhere from 130-226 (john informed me of the exact number) per day. the lines are usually excessively long before we even show up at the clinics.
Our send-off yesterday was incredible. The people of the village made necklaces of flowers and put them on us like they do in hawaii. One lady told me it's the same flowers they put on the graves of their parents, so, take that for what it's worth. They also gave us gifts of crackers, dried pasta, cooking oil, and i got like 4 bottles of soda. they made us tamales in banana leaves and had a little feast before we left. The little grandmas handed us calla lilies and all sorts of beautiful colorful flowers as a sign of their appreciation. val and i made friends with lots of cute babies, so there are loottsssss of photos. john tried to explain "snowmen" to the kids. they did not get it, obviously.
Traveling 2-6 hours every day is a bit exhausting, but on the bright side, we have seen a lot of the country and landscape. Today we asked where we were going and Dionisio said (en espanol), "remember that mountain way off in the distance?" yep. "the other side of it." oh. ok. all of the people, patients and otherwise, have been so gracious and hospitable to us. They love having us here and it shows.
We're headed to la Cuidad de Mexico tomorrow, but can't visit the ruins in Teotehuacan this year. something about the wierdos and the equinox, i don't know. anyway, thanks for checking in. hope all is well in NE, see you soon!!
peace
karin, john, and al
